Defining and Editing Trades

Trades are used to classify your craftspersons. For example, the Planning Board shows craftspersons by their trade. Trades are also used to estimate work, This can be useful if you know the trades that are needed to complete the job, but you are not ready to schedule a specific craftsperson. Also, to save a craftsperson record, it must have a trade assigned, so if you are entering craftspersons to schedule your work, trades are needed.

The application provides standard trades in the Quick-Start sample data. Since these trades are not deleted when you delete the sample data, you can use these trades when you add your craftspersons. If you are using trades to estimate labor costs, you will want to update the sample date trade records to include the hourly rate used at your organization for that trade.

If you are estimating your work (using the Estimate action button on the console), you can enter the trade for the work, the number of hours you expect the job to take, and can reserve parts. In this case, you can define trades from the form for estimating work. See Estimating Trades and Parts.

If you are not estimating work, you can define trades using the background data task as described in the following procedure.

Procedure

When defining trades using the Quick-Start method, you enter only the following data.

If you need to change some information, such as hourly rate, for a trade that comes with the sample data, use the following procedure.
