Tracking Work by Division and Department
Using the Building Operations Console, you have the option to track your work requests by the division and department the work is for. Knowing which divisions and departments are requiring the most work can be useful information, especially if you want to track costs by organizational unit.
Results
If you associate work with the division or department for the work:
- You can review the count of closed work requests for each division and department by month for a selected year. See the Archived Work Requests by Division and Department report.
- You can drill down in the Cost Analysis Dashboard to see the division and department for the work requests contributing to the total. See Cost Analysis Dashboard.
- You can use the Filter console to generate the Open Work Requests by Problem Type and Open Work Requests by Equipment Standard reports for particular divisions and departments. See Open Work Requests Reports.
Step 1 - Setting Up Divisions and Departments
The first step for tracking work by the organizational unit is to enter the divisions and departments for which you want to track work.
- From the Building Operations Home page, select Define Organizations from the Background Data section of the screen.
- The Define Organizations form appears. Use this form to develop the divisions and departments you want to track. Skip the step for developing business units.
See Define Organization for step-by-step instructions.
Step 2 - Associating Divisions and Departments with Work
After defining your organizational units, you can associate them with work requests in either of the following ways:
- When updating information for the work, you can enter the division and department.See Updating Work Requests.
- When entering a work request, by default, the Report Problem form shows the logged-on user as the Requestor. Requestors are employees you have entered into the system. When you add employees, you can add their divisions and departments. So, by associating a requestor with a work request, you are also associating the requestor's division and department with the work, See Entering Employees and How to Create Work Requests for information on selecting requestors when submitting work.
