Enterprise projects are project databases created by your system administrator, typically on a shared database server, although enterprise projects can be hosted on the local workstation. For more information on enterprise project creation, consult the specific database server material in ARCHIBUS System Management Help.
Your system administrator starts enterprise projects separately using the database server’s management console. The system administrator does not start these project databases using the Smart Client Start and Stop Servers command. For enterprise projects, the Smart Client presumes that the database service is already running and the database is already attached.
You use the following procedure to create the project preferences (afm-projects.xml) entry that lets Web Central and the Smart Client connect to the enterprise database.
Since you cannot create these databases automatically, the Database File and Create Database options are disabled.
To create an enterprise project preferences entry:
Name: Enter a short unique code name, without any spaces, for the project you are creating, such as "myproj." The form uses this entry to create defaults for the Database File and the Project folders.
Project Title — Enter a descriptive name for the project you are creating, such as "My Project."
Is Active? States whether the Start and Stop Servers command should try to start this project database if it is local, or connect to the project database if it is an enterprise database.
Do not select the Is Active checkbox if you want to keep a project entry handy, but not necessarily start the project database every time you select the Start command. For example, you may wish to deactivate a test database, a localized database, prototype vs. production databases, databases used for different services customers, or the console or the services startup for the hq sample database. Alternately, you may wish to sometimes connect to an MS SQL or Oracle network database, but do not wish the startup to fail if that database is currently unavailable.
Database Type: Select a database type from the list. The Database Type for enterprise projects is restricted to these choices:
Database Name: Enter the name used to identify the database, for example, HQ.
Project Port: Enter the port number for the project.
Project Folder: Browse to enter the location of the project files, for example, /projects/hq. This folder must be accessible to the application server. Specify this folder relative to the Web application folder. For example, if you enter projects/hq, the application server looks for this folder beneath the applications server URL, for example, localhost:8080\archibus\projects\hq.
Drawing Files Folder: Browse to the location of the AutoCAD drawing (.dwg) or Revit model files (.rvt) created, edited, and saved by the ARCHIBUS Extensions for AutoCAD or Revit, or the DWG Editor. The Drawing Files folder may reside on a different file server, but these files must be available directly to the operating system. Specify this location in relation to the Remote File Server Location; the program adds this value to the Remote File Server Location to find the drawings, for example, \\workgroupserver\archibus\projects\hq\drawings
.
Enterprise Graphics Folder: Browse to the location of the published metafiles (.swf and .emf files) from the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor. These files must be available directly to both the operating system and the application server. The ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor looks to create these files using the Remote File Server Location, for example,\\workgroupserver\archibus\projects\hq\drawings
.
The application server looks to use these files in reports by finding them beneath the server URL, for example, localhost:8080\archibus\projects\graphics.
