Creating Asset Symbols by Populating

Sometimes, sites have a database inventory of items such as tagged furniture, equipment, furniture standards, or jacks but do not have these items represented in the drawing with asset symbols.

If the database inventory contains the appropriate information (the room location and a properly defined standard), then you can have the system automatically generate asset symbols for these records by using the program's population features. To do so, you run the appropriate "Populate" task on the CAD Process Navigator.

Note: In order for the population features to correctly operate, asset types and standards must be defined. See Completing Standards Tables for Use with Asset Symbols

Follow this general procedure:

  1. From the CAD Process Navigator, set to the appropriate layer.
  2. Choose a population task from the CAD Process Navigator, such as "Populate Equipment to Rooms."
  3. The program prompts you to select room asset symbols to which you want to add the specified type of asset symbol. Select one or more room asset symbols.

The program consults the appropriate table for a list of items located in the selected rooms and inserts the appropriate blocks on the appropriate asset layer. The program then converts these blocks to asset symbols, linking them to the corresponding records in the asset table, and displaying asset text.

  4. Once the program inserts the asset symbols, you can position these asset symbols as desired within the room boundary.
