Working with the Drawing List

The Drawing List shows all the drawings that are part of your current project. When you add a drawing to your project, the program adds the drawing to the project's Drawing List. The Drawing List includes a filter row so that you can quickly find a specific drawing.

From the Smart Client or the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor, the Explorer pane's Drawings tab enables you to readily access and work with your drawings using the Drawing List.

From the Drawings list you can:

• Locate and open drawings by selecting the drawing from the list and clicking Open, or by double-clicking the drawing in the list. You can use the filter row to search for the drawing by Title and Name. See Procedure: Opening a Drawing.
  

  Once you select a drawing from the list, ARCHIBUS launches the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor, and opens the selected drawing.

• Create a new ARCHIBUS drawing by clicking New. See Creating New Floor Plan Drawings.
• Add an existing .DWG file to the project and the Drawing List by clicking Add and entering information for the drawing. See Bringing Drawings into ARCHIBUS Projects.
• View drawing Properties, such as the drawing's folder path, AutoCAD version, and space hierarchy values, by selecting a drawing and clicking Properties.
• Remove a drawing from the drawing list by selecting the drawing and clicking Remove. If a drawing is removed from the Drawing List, ARCHIBUS no longer keeps the data associated with the drawing up-to-date as you add, remove, and edit entities within the drawing.
• If your site has enabled Document Management for Drawings, your Drawing List will include options for checking out drawings from a central location to work with them on your local server, as well as options for checking in your updated drawings. For information, see Checking Drawings In and Out of the Document Management System.

Procedure: Opening a Drawing

To open a drawing:

1. Access the Drawing List in one of the following ways

• From the Smart Client Explorer panel, select the Drawings tab.
• Select a CAD task from the Smart Client Process Navigator.
• From the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor's Explorer panel, select the Drawings tab.

The Drawing List shows all the drawings that are part of your current project.

2. If needed, limit the drawings shown in the list:
   1. Enter all or part of a drawing’s Title or Name in the filter row; as you type the list is restricted to show only drawings matching your entry. See the topic Searching for Records in a Grid Using the Filter Row found on the Table of Contents in the Smart Client User's Guide/Grid Basics book.
   2. To clear the filter so that the list again displays all drawings, click Refresh at the top of the Drawing List.
3. To view properties for a drawing, such as the drawing's folder path, AutoCAD version, and the drawing's space hierarchy values, select the drawing from the list and click Properties from the top of the drawing list.
4. Double-click the drawing you want to open.

   The drawing opens in the CAD tool set in your user preferences. If the CAD tool is not active, selecting the drawing launches the CAD drawing tool.
