Use the Sharing command to start or stop sharing your workstation as the host server for your workgroup. The Sharing command is found in the Setup group on the Ribbon. This command:
When deploying the Smart Client, the System Administrator uses the “Sharing” command to create the \\workgrpsvr\AIPROJECTS share to the LocalFileServerLocation\projects folder, for example:
“C:\users\public\archibus\projects\”.
Note: The “AIPROJECTS” share is just a convenient default for making the single user and workgroup setup easy. You can change this to any share name or file URL that you prefer by changing the Smart Client Drawing and Enterprise Graphics Folders in your Project Preferences.
When you launch the Smart Client as a full installation, your workstation is automatically shared.
If you run the full installation, the installation will share the \public\users\archibus\projects
folder. The installation will also set up your Project Preferences entries (in afm-projects.xml
) to point the Smart Client Drawing folder and Enterprise Graphics folder to this shared folder.
This shared folder exposes only the access that remote clients need to install the Remote Smart Client on their desktops, to access CAD and BIM drawings and models, and to publish enterprise graphics.
If your workstation is not currently being shared, invoking the Sharing command starts sharing your workstation, so that peer workstations on the network can sign in to it as clients.
The Sharing command sets up your workstation as the workgroup host by creating a share name and setting the default application server and remote file server locations. By setting these preferences, this command eliminates the need for an administrator to set them on each workstation.
Once your workstation is shared, peer workstations on your local network can:
Remote Server Location:
http:\thisworkstation:8080\archibus
\\thisworkstation\archibus
For example, if your workstation is named workgrpsrv, drawing files for the hq project would be found at:
\\workgrpsvr\archibus\hq\projects\drawings\
If you invoke the Stop Sharing command when your workstation is being shared, the command removes this shared access and stops the sharing, so that workstations on the network can no longer sign in to it.
