Drawing Hazardous Material Plans
During most types of workplace emergencies, first responders (firefighters,
police, rescue personnel) will need to know the location and type of hazardous
materials stored at your facility. An accurate, readily-available hazardous
material (HAZMAT) plan can help minimize the loss of life and property.
Hazardous material plans are stored on the EP_DRAW_HAZARDOUS
layer. To see a typical HAZMAT plan, consult drawing HQ19 in the HQ sample project.
Note: Each HAZMAT area is considered to be a regulation compliance item;
accordingly, the HAZMAT asset symbols are linked to records in the
Regulation Compliance
Items table.
Note: If you are using the Clean Building application, you will depict on the cb-hazard
layer of your floor plan drawing the location of hazardous building materials that need mitigation, such as asbestos, radon, and mold. These items do not pose an immediate threat in the event of a building emergency and can be managed separately from the hazardous materials tracked with this task. Accordingly, with this task, you will add your hazmat areas to the EP_DRAW_HAZARDOUS
layer of your floor plan drawing.
To develop a HAZMAT plan:
- On the Process Navigator in Smart Client or CAD, go to Environmental & Risk Management/Emergency Preparedness/Define Systems and Zones.
- If you are working in Smart Client and CAD is not active, select the Draw Hazardous Materials Plans task. The task presents the Drawing List
so that you can choose a drawing to work on. Choose the drawing, and ARCHIBUS loads your CAD tool, displays the selected drawing, and makes CAD the active application.
- In CAD, open a drawing (if necessary).
- Set a snap and grid as necessary. The Process Navigator in CAD includes these commands for your convenience.
- Prepare the drawing for working with hazardous material areas by choosing Set Hazardous Material Plans on the Process Navigator. This sets the EP_DRAW_HAZARDOUS as the current layer.
- Draw a polyline around each area that
houses hazardous materials.
- Assign the polylines
intelligence by
them. This connects the hazmat
polylines to records in the Regulation Compliance Items table:
- Building Code/Floor
Code – The system completes these fields with the drawing's space hierarchy
values.
- Regulation – Choose
a regulation classification, such as HAZMAT, from the validating Regulations
table.
- Description – Enter
a detailed description about the area holding hazardous material.
- Room Code – If the
hazardous material is within a specific room, enter it here. If it is
not, leave this field blank.
- So that HAZMAT plans can be viewed over the web using ARCHIBUS Web Central, save the drawing with its HAZMAT information as an by running the Publish Enterprise Graphics command.
