A safety officer ensures workplace safety and is typically responsible for:
- developing policies and procedures for assuring personnel safety and reducing workplace hazards
- when workplace mishaps and accidents do occur, monitoring their progress and resolution
Practices will vary from site to site, but a safety officer typically preforms these tasks:
- Prepare a site-specific and medical plan
- Identify occupational safety and health hazards.
- Monitor workers for exposure to health-hazardous conditions.
- Mitigate or eliminate unsafe conditions, operations, or hazards.
- Provide safety to workers.
- Maintain required for workers.
- Comply with government regulations, such as US OSHA standards.
- Investigate and document workplace mishaps , corrective actions taken on the scene, resulting injuries, and ways to improve safety in the future.
