hoteling

The act of an internal employee or authorized visitor temporary occupying a seat in the facility, and charging back the appropriate department for the use of this seat. The temporary occupation of the seat can range from half a day to years, and can also cover a list of days determined by a recurring pattern (such as every third Wednesday of each month).

For example, outside contractors may wish to temporarily use an office room during the time that they are overseeing a renovation project at the site. Similarly, regional sales managers who are visiting the corporate headquarters for a one-week meeting, may wish to occupy offices during their stay. The use of these offices can be charged back to the corresponding departments.
