Groups are used by both the Space domain and the Real Estate Portfolio Management domain. A group is a continuous section of usable area on a floor that is covered by one lease and used by one department.
Space users can use groups to represent departmental areas (such as a group of offices assigned to the marketing department) and common areas that are shared by multiple departments (such as a lounge). Space users who are not using the Real Estate Portfolio Management domain can use groups to represent floor areas leased to tenants. Space domain users not working with the Lease domain do not need to associate their groups with leases.
Users of the Real Estate Portfolio Management domain use groups to outline leased areas on a floor that are occupied by the same department. Users of the Real Estate Portfolio Management domain can also use suites to represent leased floor areas. However, since groups can be associated with departments, and suites cannot be, users who want to track both department and lease assignments for leased floor areas typically represent these areas with groups.
