Editing SVG Drawing Publishing Rules

Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is the file format used to publish enterprise graphics for use on mobile devices. SVG files are XML files that combine background data and intelligent data in one file. ARCHIBUS provides the following generic SVG publishing rules:

Be sure to enable an SVG-type publishing rule that displays layers that contain all the asset types (rooms, suites, hazmat, architectural, egress, and so on ) that you wish to make available on the mobile device.

Use the Edit SVG Drawing Publishing Rules task to enable, disable, or change drawing publishing rules for mobile plans. If you need to add a new drawing publishing rule, you can use the Edit Drawing Publishing Rules task from the Smart Client.

You can publish enterprise graphics to SVG format from the Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the Smart Client DWG Editor.

For information on which Process Navigator tasks present these plans and from which tasks you should publish enterprise graphics, see Select Plan Types.

Procedure

To edit SVG drawing publishing rules:

  1. From the Process Navigator, select System Administration / ARCHIBUS System Administration / Mobile Apps Manager/ Edit SVG Drawing Publishing Rules task.
  2. In the Select SVG Drawing Publishing Rule pane, select the rule you want to edit.

The information entered for the selected rule appears in the SVG Drawing Publishing Rule pane.

  3. Make the following edits as needed:

Rule Code: The unique identifier for the rule. This is the primary key.

Title: A description of the rule that helps identify it. For example, "Publish rooms and equipment for floor plans."

Active? Select No to deactivate the rule so that it is not used when publishing occurs. The Smart Client ships with different rules for SVG publishing -- some with equipment, some without, some with regulatory compliance items, some without. Since SVG rules include all assets in every DWG in the same SVG output file, if you do not want to publish the assets specified in a particular rule, you can deactivate the rule by selecting No.

The other selections are in the list for backwards compatibility with the Client/Server Extension. Selecting any selection other than 'No' will essentially activate the rule.

Type: Select SVG for rules that publish your drawings to SVG format for use on mobile devices.

Note: The only selections that are currently supported for the Type field are SWF, EMF, JSON, SWF and EMF, and SVG. The other selections are shown in the list for backwards compatibility with the Client/Server product, but they are not supported for use in the Smart Client. Selecting any of these unsupported values essentially deactivates the rule.

AutoCAD Drawing View: Enter a named view that the application restores before publishing. A named view consists of a specific magnification, position, and orientation that you have saved for the drawing using the Auto CAD View command.

If you enter an Auto CAD Drawing View value, but the current drawing does not have a corresponding view with the same name, then the application uses the extents option.

Additional Layers: Specify the layers to be included in the drawing. Enter the layer name, separating layers with a semicolon. Do not put spaces either before or after the layer names.

    Use this field to specify:

The Extension does not publish all assets of a particular type, but rather only those on the visible or Additional Layers. This enables your site to publish drawings for different types of assets. For example, if one IT group owns security equipment, another voice equipment, and another data equipment, and Facilities owns all other equipment, such as HVAC or office equipment, then you can publish separate drawings for each of these.

The Additional Layers field enables you to publish multiple types of information (such as rooms and equipment) to a single SVG file. This is in contrast to the rules that publish JSON data that publish only the asset type specified in the Assigned Table field.

  4. Click Save.
