Transactional vs. Non-Transactional Methods

The Space Planning & Management domain offers two method for managing space inventory and personnel:

Your can choose between the non-transactional method and the transaction-based method.

The two methods share some tasks, and have their own specific tasks as well. Accordingly, as you work through the online help topics, you will find that some topics are specific to a particular method, while other topics pertain to both methods.

Non-Transactional Method

With the non-transactional method, you create a space inventory of rooms, groups, or both, as well as track the personnel occupying these rooms and charge departments for the space that they use. With this method, you do not track space changes over time with workspace transactions.

Transactional Method

With the transactional method, you have all of the space inventory and personnel inventory features as described above for the non-transactional method. Additionally,this method records changes to room assignments (such as changes to employee assignment, department assignment, type,and category) as a series of Workspace Transactions records. Space changes recorded in Workspace Transactions can result from space reassignments as well as departmental requests to claim space, group moves, and individual moves.

Set the program to the appropriate method using the System Administration/ARCHIBUS System Administration/ARCHIBUS Administrator - Application Configuration/Enable Workspace Transactions task.
