Command: AFM_ASTLAY
How to access this command: Select ARCHIBUS/Asset/Set Asset Layer from the Ribbon, or run the command from the command line. The Set XX tasks on the CAD Process Navigator also run this command.
Purpose: Presents a list of asset types so you can choose a corresponding asset layer to activate.
The Set Asset Layer command constructs a list of the asset types defined by the project's schema and presents them in a dialog box. Choose an asset type from this list and the program does the following:
If the layers specified by the layer template do not exist in the drawing, the program creates them and makes them visible. Typically, the layer template instructs the drawing to make visible the asset symbol layer and asset text layer, and make current the prototype layer.
The layer template can also activate other layers that are useful for working with the asset type. For example, the layer template specified by the Equipment asset type might also instruct the drawing to display the Gross Area and Room layers.
Note: The Set Asset Layer command presents a list of all asset types in the schema, including asset types for which the Smart Client's Process Navigator does not provide corresponding drawing, table, and reporting tasks. For example, you may see asset types such as Runoff Areas or Parking Spaces which do not have corresponding Process Navigator tasks. To develop asset symbols of these asset types, you need to use the ARCHIBUS Client/Server environment and have an appropriate business application license.
Entities that you add to an asset layer will convert to asset symbols of the asset layer's asset type.
For example, use ARCHIBUS/Asset/Set Asset Layer to choose the Room asset layer, which makes current the Room prototype layer and displays the Room asset symbol and asset text layers. Now draw a polyline on the Room prototype layer, and when you data edit or data number it, the program converts it to a room asset symbol (since it is located on an asset layer whose asset type is Room).
Therefore, before creating new entities that you intend to convert to asset symbols, you should use the Set Asset Layer command to make the appropriate asset layer the drawing's current layer. Add blocks or polylines to the drawing, and when you assign them intelligence, you will create asset symbols of the asset layer's asset type.
