Draw Vertical Penetrations
As part of the Building Performance process, a CAD specialist needs to add asset symbols to CAD drawings.
Vertical penetration areas are represented
on the Room (RM) asset layer and are registered in the
Rooms table. The Room Category of VERT indicates that the area is a vertical penetration area.
Typically, before you add vertical penetration areas to drawings, others at your site have developed background data about your facility, such as the names of buildings and floors, and the types of vertical penetrations.
Procedure
- On the Process Navigator in CAD or in ARCHIBUS Smart Client, move to Space Planning & Management/Space Inventory & Performance/Building Performance.
- If you are working In Smart Client and CAD is not active, select the Draw Vertical Penetration Areas task. The task presents the Drawing List
so that you can choose a drawing to work on. Choose the drawing, and ARCHIBUS loads your CAD tool, opens the selected drawing, and makes CAD the active application.
- In CAD, open a drawing (if necessary).
- Set you snap and grid as necessary. The CAD Process Navigator includes these commands for your convenience.
- Prepare the drawing for working with vertical penetration areas by choosing Set Rooms on the Process Navigator.
- Depict the floor's vertical penetration areas by drawing rectangles and polylines.
- Assign the polylines
intelligence by them. This converts the polylines to asset symbols. For more information on developing ARCHIBUS asset symbols, see: Asset Symbols: Overview.
- Enter the Building Code and Floor Code fields. The program may have already completed these with values from the drawing. If not, you may select from the available values.
- For each vertical penetration area, assign a room number that when combined with the Building Code and Floor Code will be a unique value. If you like, enter a room number that indicates that this area is a vertical penetration, such as HQ-19-VERT01.
- Complete Room Category with VERT, and select an appropriate value for Room Type, such as STAIRS.
- Since this is not on occupiable room, you can leave the Room Standard field blank.
- Since vertical penetrations are part of the building structure, departments do not need to pay for their share of them. Therefore, vertical penetration areas should have a Prorate value of NONE and should not have a division or department assignment. For more information, see Designate Common Area Rooms and Groups.
- From the ARCHIBUS Smart Client Extension for AutoCAD or the DWG Editor, you can run the Highlight Vertical Penetration by Type command to highlight in your drawing the vertical penetrations according to type.On the Process Navigator, this command is located in the Room Inventory process. See Highlight by Owner Commands.
- So that the drawings with vertical penetration information can be viewed using ARCHIBUS Web Central or Smart Client, publish your drawing as an by running the Publish Enterprise Graphics command, which is located on the Process Navigator for your convenience.
- A Smart Client or Web Central user will need to run the Update Area Totals task, which calculates building performance areas.
- If you like, view your vertical penetration drawing in reports by accessing Smart Client or Web Central and running the Highlight Rooms by Category and Type report.
Note: The Building Performance Process Navigator includes the "Convert Vert. and Service Areas to Rooms" command. For information, see Converting a pre-V18.1 ARCHIBUS Space Inventory for Use with the Web Central Space Inventory.
